How Ryanair baggage allowances work

When flying with Ryanair, one small Personal Bag is included with every fare at no additional cost. This carry-on bag must fit under the seat in front of you. Depending on the fare selected, a Cabin Bag or Check-in Bag may also be included as part of your Ryanair flight.

Ryanair bag limits at a glance:

  • Small Personal Bag: Maximum size of 16 x 12 x 8 in (40 x 30 x 20 cm), which must go under the seat in front of you.
  • Cabin Bag: Mustn't exceed 22 x 16 x 8 in (55 x 40 x 20 cm) or 22 lb (10 kg). This goes in the overhead locker.
  • Check-in Bag: Options range from 22-50 lb (10-23 kg) per bag, depending on the chosen fare.

Passengers with Check-in Bags on the same flight reservation may share their total checked baggage allowance. Airport fees apply to bags that exceed the permitted size or weight.

Traveling with sports gear or musical instruments

If your equipment is on the smaller side, like a ukulele or a pair of rollerblades, you can bring it right into the cabin as long as it fits your standard carry-on allowance. Larger items, such as a cello, a snowboard, or a set of golf clubs, can be checked into the cargo hold for a fee. Checked gear usually has a weight cap of 44 lbs (20 kg), though bicycles get a higher limit of 66 lbs (30 kg) in a protective box or case.
