Flying with Lufthansa

Lufthansa was founded in 1926, and is considered the largest and oldest German airline with a fleet of more than 280 aircrafts flying to more than 200 destinations across 78 countries worldwide. Lufthansa is a founding member of the Star Alliance, the largest association of airlines. It is headquartered in Cologne, Germany and has two hubs at the Frankfurt Airport and the Munich Airport.

Online Check-In

Lufthansa offers passengers various ways to check-in for their flight. The most convenient, online check in, is available on Lufthansa worldwide, though it may not be used for departures at certain airports. Passengers can use online check-in (within 23 hours before flight departure).

Mobile check-in
Passenger check-in from a mobile device is also available. Passengers can use their internet enabled mobile phone to also have their boarding pass sent to their device and presented at the boarding gate.
Airport kiosk
The airport kiosk check-in is also available and passengers can also use late night check-in (drop off luggage and check-in a maximum of 23 hours prior to departure).

Flight Status

Passengers can consult the status of their flight via Lufthansa’s automated flight status notifications sent to your mobile phone, online, through email, or their Facebook, or Twitter social media accounts.

Miles and More

Through Lufthansa’s frequent flyer program, Miles and More, passengers are able to earn miles on their Lufthansa flights or one of their partners. Points may be redeemed for flights, upgrades, or rewards.

Hand Baggage Allowance

All passengers are allowed to bring a standard item or hand luggage and one personal item.

Weight limit: 8kg (17.6lbs)
Dimensions of main piece of hand baggage: 55cm x 40cm x 23cm (22in x 16in x 9in)

Business class and first class passengers are allowed passengers are allowed 2 pieces of hand luggage.

Checked Baggage Allowance

Checked baggage allowances vary depending on the class of travel of each passenger: First Class passengers are allowed 3 pieces of free baggage, up to 70lbs (32kg) each; Business Class passengers are allowed 2 pieces of free baggage, up to 70lbs (32kg) each; and Economy Class passengers are allowed 1 piece of free baggage, up to 50lbs (23kg). The maximum dimensions of free checked baggage are: 62in (158cm) (length + width + height). Extra baggage is allowed at an additional fee and any suitcases exceeding the free weight allowance will be subject to an overweight baggage fees.

If flying through Frankfurt, make sure you have at least an hour in a half between flights. It's a big airport. Luftansa was great with service and the flight enjoyable.

Lufthansa flights were comfortable. Three out of four flights at Frankfurt involved busing which I consider unacceptable at such a hub airport. There was also a delay finding a parking spot at Frankfurt. Frankfurt airport internal security checks were rude and unfriendly (compared with Dusseldorf). I have flown over 6 000 000 kms. and Frankfurt attitudes and transfer arrangements are not up to the standerd required.

missed connecting flight in Frankfurt. we arrived later than scheduled. when we landed our connecting flight was taking off. spent 4 hours at airport on standby for next flight and kept asking for a seat. finally got my seat but it was all a tight schedule from the beginning.
