Flights from Medellin

Medellin is the capital city of Antioquia province in Colombia, an urban center that is an important manufacturing region. It is home to over three million people. The main airport is Jose Maria Cordova Airport, located roughly 18 miles from Medellin in the city of Rionegro. It is also known as Rionegro Airport and is the second biggest airport in the country in terms of passenger and cargo volume. Amenities at this airport include 11 boarding bridges, lounges, restaurants, duty-free shops and parking spaces for 300 vehicles. The domestic airport, Olaya Herrera Airport, is closer to the city center. There are restaurants, parking spaces for 202 vehicles and 28 for motorbikes, free Wi-Fi and retailers.

Travelling to Medellin airport

To catch flights from Medellin to Cartagena at the airport, you can take the bus, minibus or taxi. Average travel time is 40 minutes from the city to Rionegro. Taxis are metered and can be booked by phone at no additional cost. There are no authorized bus companies that go to the domestic airport, but certain bus routes pass nearby (about a block away). Otherwise, a taxi is the best way to reach the airport or you can drive there using the Autopista del Sur, Av. Guayabal or via Cra. 65. It is roughly an 8 to 10-minute drive to the airport depending on the traffic.

Getting to the city center

Air travel to Cartagena is served by the Rafael Nunez International Airport, which is conveniently located 10 minutes from the Centro de Convenciones Julio Cesar Turbay Ayala and about 15 minutes from the hotel zone area of the city. Buses and taxis go to the city center of Cartagena. Taxis operate 24 hours and city buses from 6:50 until 23:45. You can also use airport shuttle vans or pre-arranged private vans for families and groups. It is also possible to rent a limousine from the airport to the city center, with some having sufficient room to accommodate large groups.
