The island is served by Mykonos National Island Airport located in the interior of the island. It serves an average of 350,000 passengers a year and has one terminal. A total of 28 commercial and charter airlines fly to Mykonos.

Although, most of the flights that pass through Mykonos are seasonal, there are still regular services within domestic routes such as Athens, Thessaloniki, Rhodes and Heraklion.

Travelling to Mykonos airport

The capital of Mykonos, Chora, is just 2.5 miles to the airport. If you have to fly to Santorini from Mykonos, the easiest and fastest way to get there is to take a taxi. The ride will take about ten minutes. There is a public transportation system in place on the island, but the schedules are erratic, especially during winter time or low season. On the positive note, every bus makes a stopover at the city center so you should be able to get onto one if you are leaving for the airport. The journey to Mykonos Airport will be about 15 minutes. Otherwise, you can take pre-arranged private shuttles from your accommodation.

Getting to the city center

Flights to Santorini arrive at the Santorini (Thira) National Airport. There are several ways to get to the city center: bus, taxi, shuttle and rental car. The public bus passes at Fira and will take about 20 minutes. Note that buses do not follow a regular schedule and may be infrequent during the low season. It is recommended to carry a copy of the bus schedule to avoid unpleasant surprises. Another means of getting to town is to use shared or private transfers that are pre-booked to get to your final destination. To get out quicker, use a rental car or take a taxi. The ride to town will last 7 to 10 minutes.
